When I was a kid the greatest thing in my life was The Ghoul. The Ghoul was a late night scary movie show host. His real name was Ron Sweede. He had a show on TV in Cleveland and also one in Detroit.
In Detroit the Ghoul was on Channel 50 late on Saturday night. The movies they showed were TERRIBLE horror films, They only ever showed about 5 or 10 different ones, I imagine they were all in the public domain so they didn't have to pay royalties for showing them. Between the commercials and the movie the Ghoul would say funny stuff, do cool sketches, play films that his crew made, and blow things up. It was great.
I used to watch it with my friend since 2nd grade, Scott. Scott was pretty clever, and he made his own mobile home out of wood he found around the neighborhood. We would roll the mobile home to different locations and hang out in it. It was like a rolling mobile tree house.
One night we were watching the Ghoul and it got us all keyed up, and we decided we needed to play nerf tennis against the walls of the mobile home. We were having quite a game when suddenly a voice said "what in the hell are you guys doing? Do you know it's 2 in the morning?" It was Scott's Dad. Amazingly he just sort of chuckled after that and told us to quite down.
That was the effect the Ghoul had on us. In a way, my whole show biz career has been following his footsteps. Check him out yourself in the YouTube video below.
